Should I move to San Francisco?
Current location:
Lovely south bay suburbia. 15 minutes to work.
Pros of moving to SF:
- restaurants
- small-band concerts
- more young people to meet
- lovely views from apartment
- great walks, parks, biking
Cons:
- car parking costs $300, plus owning, insuring and maintaining a car that I hardly use is like wasting another $700. Ideally city-dwellers should not own cars, but I can't afford to take the hit of selling the car right now.
- rent is an additional $300-$500
- less room to live and less privacy with a roommate (unless I spend another $500 for a house or a 3 bdrm). I hate sharing bedroom walls.
- some furniture just won't fit
- no in-apartment laundry unless I pay more money
- no independent house unless I pay lots more money
- my visitors can't park and will have their cars broken into
- commute to work: 3 hours wasted a day (but maybe I can take up reading, but I can also do that without moving to SF)
- no more loud home theatre fun
- I can't do much on the weekdays because the city will be asleep by the time I get home from work. Will I even wake up early on the weekends to enjoy the city life?
