Installing Flash Player 9 on a Mac

I left this feedback on the help page for the mac installer for flash player that claims to help with the problem with "Error "creating file: 1008:5, -5000 Access Denied Error"

First, why doesn't this stupid installer ask for the sudo password unlike all others and then run as root?
Next, why won't it tell me which file it's having trouble with when it prints "access denied"? Would it kill you to do that?

For anyone else who finds this rant, this is what I had to use to install flash player 9:
-
$ sudo chown -R $USER /Applications/{Opera,Camino,Fire*,Thunderbird}.app /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins -
Run the flash installer
$ sudo chown -R root /Applications/{Opera,Camino,Fire*,Thunderbird}.app /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins
OK, now I can finally use the god-awesome google maps street to figure out what the outside of the Eureka Theatre looks like.
